Plants grow from a seed into trees or flowers because they ‘germinate’, i.e. they are fertilised and can start growing if all the conditions are correct. This means that a fertilised seed can only grow if it has the right amount of food, water, sunlight and atmosphere available to it! If you plant a seed in soil, water it and then put it in a dark cupboard, it won’t grow very well but if you put the same plant outside in the daylight, it should sprout in no time!

Much the same as humans, we can only survive on Earth as we have water to drink, air to breathe, food to eat and sunlight to keep us warm!
