I don’t know! There’s no way to prove that God exists or doesn’t exist, so we’ll never know. For example, some people think that things like altruism, which means helping other people even though it doesn’t help you, are evidence, but some people think it does help the species as a whole, so is something that would evolve. And even if that’s true you could argue that God wanted people to evolve that way. For every argument there’s an argument against it and there’s usually no way to prove it either way. There’s no need for a God to explain the universe in my opinion, hut I also think that that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a God. And there are always things we can’t explain, like what happened before the universr began and why it began at all, so there’s definitely room for religion to try and explain these things. I don’t think it’ll ever be proved or disproved though!

I don’t think we can every prove or disprove the existence of God. This is a philosophical and religious question, not a scientific one. As such, it is perhaps inappropriate to try to address it using the tools of science.

At its heart, the idea of God is about giving meaning to our life. This is something different than science — science is not interested in meaning, but only in “how” things happen. So with science we can learn a lot about the Universe all around us, but spiritually some people still look for profound answers to the meaning of their personal experience in this life, which is not something science can do. So God, or spirituality, or religious beliefs are the answer that humanity gives to the question of meaning of life.

I don’t think it is possible to prove or disprove the existence of God, as the term God means many things to many people. However, I think that science can answer many questions that are typically thought of to be in the “domain of religion”. Our view of ourselves and are place in the Universe have changed radically since the major religions began thousands of years ago. We now know that we don’t live in the centre of the Universe, and that we were not created as we are, but rather evolved over millions of years.

This calls into question many of the core ideas behind the main religions of the world. If God is regularly speaking to people, why did he/she fail to mention these basic scientific facts over the thousands of years when people believed the wrong things?

Personally I don’t believe in a God in any sense. However, there is no way to prove or disprove the existence of God and that is one of the most amazing things about religion as far as I am concerned.

Religion and the belief in a God, or many Gods, is all about having faith in something despite no physical evidence for such a being existing. To me, having that ‘blind’ faith is pretty incredible and I have a lot of respect for those that follow a faith, so long as they are not forcing that upon anyone else or doing any damage with it.
