42 km and 195m — that is, 26.2 miles. All marathons are exactly the same length, for a historical reason: it is said that this is the distance that a messenger ran thousands of years ago, to bring an important war-related message from Athens to the city of Marathon, in Greece. That’s why it’s called like that!
If you run any longer than that, then you are doing an ultra-marathon. I haven’t done a ultra-marathon yet.

I am eyeing the 56k Royal Parks Ultra Marathon in London, but not for this year – my next target is the Amsterdam Marathon in October
