      Yes, there was water on Mars. We have lots of evidence of past water on Mars from various missions to the Red Planet. Curiosity found an ancient river bed almost as soon as it touched down on the planet’s surface and we’ve seen lots of evidence of water flowing on the surface in Mars’ past from satellite images as well. There are huge channels and river deposits on Mars that would have required running water to form.

      We also have lots of minerals on Mars that have water in their structure or would have required water to form in the first place so there must have been water on Mars at some point in the planet’s history!

      I don’t think there was ever life on Mars though because we just don’t have any evidence for it yet. We know Mars used to have water and we know the atmosphere used to be thicker, so it is possible that there could have been life in the past, but we should have found some indication of it by now and unfortunately we just haven’t.
